Procter & Gamble Seeks to Trademark LOL, WTF, FML and NBD for Advertisements

Procter & Gamble, the global leader in consumer goods and household products, has caused a stir with its recent trademark applications for some of the most popular internet acronyms.

The filings include applications to use LOL (laughing out loud), WTF (what the f**k), FML (f**k my life) and NBD (no big deal) as part of its marketing for cleaning products such as liquid soap, dishwashing detergents, surface cleaners and air fresheners.

While the applications are still pending with the US Patent and Trademark Office, P&G has declined to comment on them so far. It remains to be seen whether they'll be granted or not – it will certainly be interesting to watch this space!

And if Procter & Gamble do end up with the trademark, you never know – you might be able to buy a bottle of LOL-branded dishwashing detergent in the near future! Exciting times.
