Ontario School Bans Valentine's Day Celebrations to Promote Equity, Inclusion, and Healthier Living

Jean Steckle Public School in Kitchener, Ontario, has recently decided to no longer celebrate Valentine's Day on school grounds.

Their reasoning for this, as expressed in a note sent to parents and subsequently forwarded to local media, is that not all students or families may celebrate the holiday, and they do not want their celebrations to "negatively impact our families and students."

"While we acknowledge the celebration of Valentine's Day and are mindful of the popularity of that day, it is not celebrated by all students/families in our community"

Further, the school expressed concern that Valentine's Day could lead to a financial strain on families, and the promotion of candy is inconsistent with the Healthy Schools approach.

Ultimately, the school wants all its students to feel welcome and included in their school environment something we can all get behind!

So, if you're looking for a way to celebrate Valentine's Day, try something creative and thoughtful, like making personalized cards or offering heartfelt compliments.

Let's make this Valentine's Day one of inclusion and appreciation! 💕
