6 Things You Didn’t Know About Drake

There isn’t a soul in Toronto that doesn’t know who Aubrey Drake Graham is. And that’s a fact.

Some know him by his government name, as Drizzy, 6ix God or Champagne Papi, while others just know him simply as Drake. No matter how you address him though, one thing is certain; he is on top right now and making our city proud.

However, although you might know alot about the man taking over the music industry completely, we bet there are some things you still don’t know about the certified lover boy.

With that, here are six things you probably didn’t know about Drake. Oh, and for our Harry Potter fans? Yeah, we got something for you.

1. He played the young mammoth in Ice Age

Drizzy’s acting career is not foreign to anyone, we all know he played Jimmy Brooks in Degrassi; a basketball star who ended up in a wheelchair after getting shot by a fellow student.

But did you know he played Ethan in Ice Age?

2. His uncle played bass for Prince

Larry Graham, Drake’s uncle, played bass for Prince proving that musicality runs deep in the family.

Drake’s own father was a drummer and played alongside Jerry Lee Lewis, a famous rock and roll musician.

3. He is obsessed with Harry Potter

Who would have guessed that Drake is a superfan of Harry Potter?

During an interview with Billboard back in 2017, Drake said he paid $16,000 for the first edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as a birthday gift to himself.

He apparently had been searching for the book for more than four years all over the globe. Drake also allegedly has a Harry Potter tattoo on his back.

4. His brand OVO was once just a small music blog

Everyone knows that OVO stands for ‘October’s Very Own’ which is the birth month of the rapper.

But it is so much more. It’s a record label, clothing line and a music festival too.

However, did you know that OVO was once a small music blog that focused on Toronto’s music scene? Now that’s a humble beginning.

5. He was the reason the famous British dramaTop Boy’ made a comeback

While on tour, Drake became a fan of the television crime drama Top Boy, which was discontinued by Channel 4 in 2011.

He later teamed up with the original creator and writer, Ronan Bennett, and pitched the show to Netflix in which he became the executive producer. The show has since gained notoriety and an even bigger fan base made up of the younger generation who weren’t introduced to it back when it was a hit.

6. There’s a “Drake Day”

Every year on June 10th in Houston, Texas people celebrate “Drake Day.”

This was a decision made by Annise D. Parker, the mayor of Houston, who wanted to remember the artist following his residency there.

In fact, Houston has been a frequent mention in Drake’s lyrics. This includes the term ‘Houstatlantavegas’ which he coined.
